How do you become friends—by befriending, or by simply starting to be friends? Do you remember the first time we met? If I do not remember this moment, does it mean that it was meaningless? What is more important – what to do, how to do or how to do something? Is one out of three always excluded? If it feels so good, why be bad at all? Are there surgically precise words to tell the most complicated things in a way that neither the one saying them nor the one hearing them gets hurt? Is common opinion an illusion or hallucination? Is it possible to recreate these moments and to distil some kind of essence out of them? Maybe all this is there just to become friends? How come that even if you are just making a performance, in the end still, it still changes your life? If one can say that I live then when cannot one say that I art?
“hey what’s up” is a collaboration that has lasted for two summers and one winter, during which we have been exploring friendship and what it consists of and what conditions are necessary for it to bloom. What we discovered is like a bicycle, as you do not need to invent it again and practicing is like riding a bicycle, since once you have learned how to ride it you will never forget.
Nele Tiidelepp, Henri Särekanno and Siim Preiman are kindred spirits and their practice has so far taken different forms such as nomadic art platforms, different bands, performances, exhibitions, radio shows, festivals. Nele holds a BA in installation and sculpture from the Estonian Academy of Arts and is currently pursuing an MA in choreography and performance at Justus Liebig University. Siim studied art history and contemporary art at the Academy of Arts and works as a curator at Tallinn Art Hall. Henri has learned that it is not about who is going to let him, it's about who is going to stop him.
