5 GESTURES TOWARDS was born
a year ago out of an on-going dialogue with fellow artists resulting in the following realisations. Local performing arts scene needs a space for experimentation and alternative formats supporting works not focusing on an end result and the delivery of a ready-made product. 80% of immaterial labour of the artist focusing on producing a performance end up in the note books, smoking rooms and the heads of the authors and collaborators, never seeing the light of the day. Each art medium is rarely meeting any other mediums and its practitioners; we are all living in our uniquely crafted bubbles and hardly get out of our niches. As an art institution and a production house elektron.art wants to host daring and experimental projects challenging the norms of our society and the world at large, resulting in a more kind, open, caring, risk taking, open-minded and non-violent world.
Why 5 GESTURES TOWARDS…?
Gesture as a performative bodily expression of an idea; it can be poetic, it can be ephemeral, it can be physical or manifest as an object.
The beauty of the series is that nobody knows until we all meet in one space at the same time.
A gesture is a kind invitation towards a conversation in whichever way it might occur.
‘’In each gesture, the artists explore the boundaries of their practices, collaborating in a space that is both open-ended and experimental. The outcome is always uncertain, a living and evolving process—inviting the public to witness artistic gestures that transcend conventional performance. Whether through a shared meal, a concert, a public dialogue, or an immersive installation, each gesture offers a glimpse into the complexity of creation,’’ explains dramaturge Alissa Šnaider.
5 GESTURES TOWARDS…, you’re invited
to step inside a world where creativity unfolds in real-time. Over the course of ten days, two artists from different disciplines—ranging from performance to visual art to sound—will come together for the first time to collaborate, question, and create, in a space where nothing is pre-defined. Where they are given full autonomy to transform/create/deconstruct the space, forget the space or re-imagine all of the above mentioned. At the end of each 10-day session, the process culminates in a one-time-only open studio event where the boundaries between artist, audience, and space dissolve. No two events are the same, and each one offers you a front-row seat to the birth of new artistic gestures. It’s a live, interactive experience where your presence matters.
